Which keyboards work?

Any keyboard or digital piano with a USB port (often marked USB TO HOST) or Bluetooth MIDI: Yamaha, Casio, Roland, Kawai, Korg, Alesis and many more. Every key press reaches the app as MIDI, so nothing is guessed from a microphone.

How do I connect with a cable?

Use the USB port on the back of the keyboard. A USB-C iPad or iPhone takes a USB-C to USB-B cable. A Lightning iPhone takes a Lightning to USB-B cable, or Apple’s Lightning to USB Camera Adapter with a normal USB cable. Turn the keyboard on, plug in, then open the Keyboard screen in the app: it says Connected and shows the keyboard’s name.

How do I connect over Bluetooth?

Keyboards with Bluetooth MIDI built in, or with a plug-in adapter such as Yamaha’s UD-BT01, pair inside the app: Settings → Keyboard → Pair a Bluetooth keyboard. Put the keyboard or adapter in pairing mode first. Bluetooth MIDI does not appear in the iOS Bluetooth settings; it is paired from the app.

The keyboard is plugged in but the app says “No keyboard yet”

Check that the keyboard is switched on and that the cable is in the USB TO HOST port, not the audio jack. Unplug and plug in again with the app open. Open “Having trouble? Show connection details” on the Keyboard screen: if the keyboard is listed there but no notes arrive, tap Copy report and email it to us.

Can I practise without a keyboard?

Yes. Every lesson and song works with the on-screen keys, so you can start before the keyboard arrives. Connect one any time from Settings → Keyboard.

How do lessons and songs work?

Learn walks you through the keys, reading notes and rhythm in short steps. Songs open in Learn mode, which waits for the right key. Once you know the notes, Play it in time scores your timing against the beat, and Listen plays the song for you. Slow and Easy tempos are in the player’s options.

Where is my progress kept?

On your device. There is no account. Settings → Erase all progress clears it. Deleting the app also removes it.
